Woodlawn (born Haroldo Santiago Franceschi Rodriguez Danhakl
on October 26, 1946) rocketed to superstardom in Andy Warhol’s
Trash (1970). Director George Cukor lobbied the Academy
to nominate her for an Oscar. Holly was a major inspiration for Lou
Reed’s iconic Walk on the Wild Side: “Holly
came from Miami FLA, / hitch-hiked her way across the USA, / plucked
her eyebrows on the way, / shaved her legs, and then he was a she...” |
